This activity is designed for young children from zero to five years of age, as they can learn to add numbers through this wonderful activity.
What You’ll Learn:
1. Math Skills – When children engage themselves in the addition ladybug game activity, they will have learned to independently count numbers and add numbers to one another. Thus, their math skills will also be enhanced.
2. Number Recognition – When kids are asked to recognise the number of spots on each side of the ladybug, add them together, and write the total number on the right hand side bottom of the cardboard box, their number recognition skills get automatically enhanced.
3. Fine Motor Skills – The moment kids insert the colourful sticks into the holes on the ladybug image on the cardboard box and use the colourful erasable markers to write numbers in the areas on top of the sticky tape, their motor skills will have developed unusually well.
4. Positional Language Skills – Upon completing this activity, children will be able to better understand the meanings of the words they need to describe the positions of the numbers related to the other numbers.
Material Required:
1. Cardboard Box: Have a thin cardboard box ready for the activity.
2. Colorful Erasable Markers: To write numbers on the sticky tape, draw boxes and mathematical symbols (plus and equal to for addition-related purposes) below the sticky tape, and draw a colourful ladybug on top of the cardboard box.
3. Colorful Sticks: To insert into the area of the cardboard box that bears the holes on top of the ladybug image
4. Scissors: To pierce small holes into the cardboard box that stand for the spots on the ladybug image and cut the sticky tape according to the needed length.
5. Sticky Tape: To stick across the blocks on the cardboard box to enable your children to write numbers on them with their colourful erasable markers and erase them each time they wish to repeat the activity.
The Procedure for Preparing:
1. Prepare the cardboard box base –
Draw a ladybug on top of a thin cardboard box, make some holes in it such that they are on both sides of the wings of the ladybug, and draw boxes and mathematical symbols (plus and equal to) with the markers on them.
2. Stick the sticky tape across the bottom of the ladybug image –
Right below the ladybug image, stick the sticky tape such that it is spread across the top of the boxes and mathematical symbols drawn for addition.
3. Get the colorful sticks ready –
Place the colorful sticks near the cardboard box ready for the activity.
4. Encourage your children to participate –
Make sure that your children insert some of the colorful sticks on both sides of the wings of the ladybug, write down the numbers on the bottom of each wing of the ladybug, add them together, and write the final output on top of the box placed next to the equal to sign. The more your children participate, the better will their addition and counting skills would be.
5. Review and Repeat –
Each time your children perform the activity, make sure to review it before making them repeat the activity till they have mastered it.
