This activity helps children learn how to fit together the different pieces of a puzzle correctly. All you need is a set of paper plates with different patterns and designs on them to perform this activity, and your child can get going:

This activity is designed for children above two years of age, as they can easily learn how to fit together paper plates based on the designs and patterns on them:

What You’ll Learn:

  1. Visual discrimination – Children will be able to learn how to fit together two pieces of a puzzle based on their colors and shapes. It will teach them how to distinguish between one color or shape and another.
  2. Enhanced problem-solving skills – When your kids participate in this activity, their problem-solving skills will be automatically enhanced since they will learn how to use their logical skills to solve the puzzle.
  3. Vocabulary development – As your children engage in this activity, they will be able to recognize and name different shapes and colors. In the bargain, their vocabulary development levels will also be enhanced.
  4. Motor skills: When your children participate in this activity, they will be able to acquire fine motor skills, including moving things from one place to another. It will also improve their hand-eye coordination at the same time.
  5. Memory skills: As your children participate in this activity, their memory skills will also improve as they try to recognize and remember what the shape and color of the original puzzle were before the paper plates were shuffled.

Material required:

  1. Paper plates: To prepare the base for this activity. Have at least five paper plates ready.
  2. Scissors: To cut the five paper plates into two zigzag-patterned parts each.
  3. Color markets: To draw designs and patterns on both cut parts of every paper plate, such that, when they are put together, they will form a particular pattern.

The procedure for preparing:

Prepare the activity plates –

Take the paper plates and draw certain shapes on them (in a particular color for each plate) in such a way that when you cut through the middle of each of the plates, the shapes on each of them will be broken into two equal parts. Make sure that you cut the five paper plates into two zigzag-patterned parts each. Shuffle the plates randomly.

Encourage your children to participate –

Instruct your children to recognize the patterns and designs on each plate according to their shape and color, and put them together accordingly.

Review and repeat –

As your kids perform this activity, keep supervising them, ask them questions, and show them how to try out this activity correctly if they get it wrong anywhere. Ask them to repeat the activity until you know they have mastered it.
